Fallopian tubes

The female reproductive system is the outstanding. Each month the ovaries produce eggs that mature. Eventually, one egg from the ovary is released. It is called an ovulation. In a period of 48 hours it can be fertilized. The ovary releases the egg into the fallopian tube. This tube connects the ovary and the uterus. When the egg is fertilized by a spermatozoid in the fallopian tube, it implants itself in the wall of the uterus. However, the fallopian tube may be blocked.

Tubal ligation and tubal ligation reversal

The blocked fallopian tubes are a very frequent cause of infertility in women. By the means of certain procedures, this problem can be treated and cured, or unblocked. On the other side, there are women who opt for a surgery that is designed to block the fallopian tubes so that they cannot stay pregnant. They want the blocked fallopian tubes as a form of sterilization. After some time, these same woman return to the surgeon and want to unblock their fallopian tubes.

The fallopian tubes can be blocked by a procedure that is called tubal ligation. On the other side, they can be unblocked after that in a surgery called tubal ligation reversal. Although many people think that a tubal ligation reversal is a simple procedure where the surgeon only has to remove the blockage and sew the remaining tube together, they are mistaken since there are various methods for the creating of the blockage in the fallopian tubes.

One of these techniques is the Pomeroy, Parkland and Irving ligation. In this procedure, Hulka and Filshie clips, the tubal ring and the Essure device are used, as well as the bipolar and monopolar methods of coagulation. In a tubal ligation reversal, a surgeon has many damages to remove while performing the operation. Sometimes, he has to remove the part of the blocked tube and then to suture the good part back together. The fallopian tubes are made of three layers and the surgeon, in a tubal ligation reversal only sutures the two outer layers of the fallopian tube. Thus, the surgeon restricts the amount of scar tissue that appears as a result of the operation.

An Essure tubal ligation reversal is a very complicated surgery. In this surgery, the Essure device is used and it can damage the uterus since the part of this device sticks in the uterus when it is implanted into the fallopian tube.
