Constipation is a health problem, but not a disease by itself. Constipation means having a bowel movement less than three times a week. The intense pain in the lower abdomen most commonly accompanies constipation. The stool may appear stiff, dried out, small in size and extremely difficult to pass. Patients often experience bloating and a sensation of fullness in the bowel.

Causes of Constipation

Constipation takes place when the colon absorbs too much water from the stool, or when the stool moves slowly trough the colon. There are a couple of possible causes for constipation. The most probable cause of constipation is insufficient intake of fiber. Lack of physical activity may also contribute to slow movements of the bowel and result in constipation. Changes in life routine such as traveling, being pregnant or aging, can change the way one's gastrointestinal tract works.

Certain medications, dehydration or a diet rich in milk are also considered risk factors. Abuse of laxatives may also provoke constipation in some periods of life. Other health problems associated with constipation are stroke, irritable bowel syndrome, problems with colon, rectum, and intestinal functions.

Fresh Apple Juice as a Natural Remedy for Constipation

Constipation is one of the most common health complains. It is more frequent in women and people older than 65 years. There are a lot of laxative medications available for treatment, but some natural remedies, like apple juice, may also be helpful.

Apple juice is mild but extremely efficient laxative suitable for everyone. Even babies can drink apple juice to get a relief from constipation. Apple juice is rich sorbitol, a non-digestible sugar that passes through the body to the colon. Apple juice possesses the ability to loosen the stool and relieve or prevent constipation.

In mild cases of constipation, one can make simple changes in lifestyle in order to avoid future problems. One of the simple solutions would be to drink fresh apple and pear juice before breakfast and before going to bed.

Patients suffering from chronic constipation should make a fruit cocktail from apple and prune and make sure to take at least three to four glasses of it every day. Fresh juice made from organic apples is the best possible choice.

To get the relief very quickly, one should take two to three glasses of prune juice first thing in the morning and, after approximately 30 minutes, another glass of apple juice.

The use of apples as natural remedies for constipation is usually very safe. There are no serious side effects except the cramping and diarrhea.
