Acai berries have become extremely popular all over the globe. Until recently no one knew about them, but now, you almost can’t pass through the supermarket not hearing someone looking for acai juice.

Acai berries grow on the acai palms. These plants are native to South America and usually grow near some water, either the rivers or the flood plains during the rainy season. Brazil is considered to be the biggest producer of these berries at the moment. In order to get the best acai berries, acai palms have to be grown organically. Berries are used whole or to make the juice and both of these products are very popular and consumed for their health benefits.

How to Know if You are Using Quality Acai Products?

It is very hard to say how to distinguish quality organic acai products from some watered or fake juices. Fake products don’t have any of the benefits of the original acai fruits, because they simply don’t contain acai but some other substances. Soy lecithin, magnesium stearate and maltodextrin are commonly used in these fake acai products.

Be aware that there are also companies claiming to provide free samples, but in fact, you will be expected to pay for the shipping of these samples to your place. Some fake companies may even want your credit card number which they will use every month, so you better be prepared for all possibilities and be very careful when looking for acai products.

One way to easily distinguish fake form original acai products is to look for USDA certificate. If the product has it, it is safe for consummation and meets the national organic standards. Kosher certificate is also very good, since products need to be of very high standard to have this certification. Also, make sure to buy acai products in the stores and not online and always look there is no added sugar or some preservatives in the juice.

Benefits of Acai Juice

Acai berries are proven to contain phytonutrients, anthocyanins and phenolics nutrients as well as proteins, fibers, omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin B in high amounts. These berries also contain one extremely valuable fatty acid – oleic acid and minerals such as potassium, copper and manganese.

Anthocyanins in these berries are very powerful antioxidants, able to neutralize free radicals which can damage the human body and heart and also fight against excess weight. The same substances (anthocyanins) are found in red wine grapes, but in lesser quantities than in acai berries.
