The tissues involved in the massaging process are ligaments, tendons, muscles, joints, lymphatic vessels and certain organs, even though there are several more belonging to the list. Also, for applying massages onto these parts of our body, practitioners may use their hands, elbows, arms, knees, feet and forearms. Alternatively, there are special massage tools which can be used during the process as well.
Types of Massages
As for different massage types and variants, there are about 80 existing ones, most of which are designed to treat certain conditions and provide relaxation as well as pain relief.
Finally, the massage session can take place while the patient is lying on the bed or the massage table, sitting in a chair, or lying on a floor mat. Through all these procedures, the patient can be dressed, partially dressed or undressed, covered with towels and sheets if necessary.
Becoming a Professional Massage Expert
Many people are in the massage business for profit and career building. However, once you finish the necessary course in massaging, you are not a professional massage practitioner. Rather, you need a special certification and a practice license.
There is a difference between the massage license and the certificate. The former one is issued by local jurisdiction after one has met the requirements set by the National Certification Examination. Besides completing the tests, you need to have at least 125 hours of anatomy and physiology behind you, along with 200 hours of practical massage work and 40 hours of pathology. Finally, you need at least 10 hours of business and ethics and 125 hours of related coursework.
As for getting the necessary certification, you will need to have additional 50 hours of CEU during the four year certification. Two hours of these 50 need to be spent on professional ethics while additional 200 hours go on practical work. After all this is done, you may or may not pass the certification exam after every four years.
Do You Need the Certificate?
Even though you may work without a massage certificate, this document is the most valuable proof of your competence and professionalism. Thus, the certificate makes it easier for you to get employed and do your job incredibly well, getting nothing but positive feedback from customers.
If you fail the certificate exam, you have 3 more chances to repeat the test. After this, if you are still unsuccessful, you must re-apply.
Finally, with the importance of massages today, people need massage experts who are qualified, dedicated to their work and professional in every sense. So, by becoming such a person, you are bound to have a great and prosperous career in this field.
