Sometimes, when we are facing pain that does not subside, we desire medications which can help us get rid of this troublesome experience. Then, we usually opt for over-the-counter painkillers or some prescription medications made for these purposes. Solpadeine and Solpadol are two similar medications which can help one deal with pain successfully, even though they are known to trigger quite a few side-effects, some more serious than the others.Solpadeine Medicine Contains Paracetamol, Codeine and Caffeine

Solpadeine medicine contains paracetamol, codeine and caffeine. Paracetamol is used as a pain reliever and it also helps in reducing high body temperature. Even though this medicine has been used for a long time, we are still not sure how paracetamol works. There is an assumption that it reduces the quantity of prostaglandins in the brain and spinal cord. Prostaglandin is a substance that increases in our body when trauma happens. Paracetamol decreases the level of prostaglandins and even though the trauma exists, we are not in that much pain.Regarding the effect on the fever, paracetamol hits on the specific part of the brain, responsible for temperature of our body. Paracetamol is effective as a pain-killer in headache, toothache, colds and flu.Other ingredient of Solpadeine is codeine. It has more effect in relieving pain and is recognized as an opioid. Codeine is imitating the function of endorphin, a natural neurotransmitter which helps in coping with pain. Codeine prevents the pain to be sent in the pain center that is in our brain. Therefore, our brain does not recognize the pain, although the reason for feeling the pain still exists. Caffeine has the function to help the effectiveness of paracetamol.

Side-Effects of Solpadeine

Solpadeine can cause some unwanted effects, and here will be named some of the most common side effect of Solpadeine. You should be aware that side effects may not appear. So the usual side effects are nausea and vomiting, constipation, vertigo, rash and sleepiness. There are other side effects of this medicine. In order to find out which they are, please contact your doctor or read the leaflet that comes with the medicine.

The doctor should know what other medications you are using, even if they are bought over-the-counter or in a herbal store, because these can possibly interact with Solpadeine. Do not use the medication in question if you are using other medications containing paracetamol, because you can pass the daily limit of paracetamol intake.

People who have taken MAO inhibitors during the last two weeks should avoid Solpadeine too. Also, if you use Cholestyramine, wait for an hour after using paracetamol.

If you use paracetamol for a long period of time there is a chance not to be able to stop the bleeding because of anti-blood-clotting effect of the drug.

Solpadeine is more likely to cause drowsiness in a combination with other medicines such as antipsychotics, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, opioids, and tricyclic antidepressants.

Solpadol is Similar and Used for Pain Relief

Similarly to Solpadeine, Solpadol consists of paracetamol and codeine phosphate, and it is used as a pain reliever. There is an assumption that it reduces the quantity of prostaglandins in the brain and spinal cord.As it has already been mentioned prostaglandin is a substance that increases in our body when some kind of trauma happens, and paracetamol lowers the level of prostaglandin. Other ingredient of Solpadol is codeine, which has more effect in relieving pain than paracetamol.

Solpadol can cause some adverse effects too. The usual problems patients who take Solpadol experience are difficult evacuation of the bowels, feeling of sickness which can be accompanied by throwing up, vertigo, problems while urinating, disarray, slowed pulse etc. Once again none of the side effects ma occur as well.

These are not all of the side effects of Solpadol usage, but if you wish to find out more about this medication, please contact you medical advisor or seek information in the leaflet you get with the medication.

As it is the case with Solpadeine, you should not use this medication if you are already using other medications that contain paracetamol or if you have been using antidepressants called MAO inhibitors during the last two weeks. Some side-effects related to Solpadeine can appear with solpadol too.

All in all, both of these medications are used for dealing with pain. Even though both solpadeine and solpadol can help people overcome pain, they need to be taken with care, due to various side effects they are capable of triggering.

Some ingredients of these medications are considered to be opiates and need to be taken carefully, while some others may interact with different medications you are taking at the moment. Thus, do not risk getting exposed to these adverse effects. Rather, read the information that comes with the medication thoroughly and consult your doctor before taking either solpadeine or solpadol.
