A normal uterine cavity and endometrial lining is essential for a woman to be able to conceive and carry a pregnancy to term. There are many physical problems with the uterus that cause infertility. When a female has a menstrual period the endometrial tissue and some other tissues are shed. The result is a new lining is regenerated over the following weeks and eventually prepares for embryo implantation. If the egg is not fertilized, the female body is not pregnant and the lining is shed and the regeneration process starts again. Problems with the uterus and uterine lining can lead to or contribute to reproductive problems such as recurrent miscarriage or infertility. The following is a list of problems which can impair fertility or lead to other problems for a female:

Uterine polyps Uterine fibroids (medically termed leiomyoma or myoma) Uterine malformation biocornuate or t-shaped uterus Luteal phase defect-rare condition which involves inadequate development of cellular changes in the endometrial lining after ovulation and progesterone exposure. Thin endometrial lining-also rare, endometrial lining is less than 6 mm which can make conception and healthy pregnancy impossible.

The uterus is one of the most important organs of the reproductive system, it helps to protect and nurture a growing infant. If a woman is having trouble conceiving or carrying a baby it could be due to many different types of uterine abnormalities. Sometimes uterus problems can make it very hard for a woman to become pregnant and if a female is undergoing fertility testing or any type of fertility treatment, it will be examined and assessed for any problems. Sometimes a woman will have physical problems with the uterus that cause infertility, but sometimes abnormalities can actually interfere with pregnancy. If a woman has uterine problems, a physician may treat the condition in a variety of different ways such knee-chest exercises, a pessary insert device or through surgical means in severe cases. With everything taken into consideration, it is very important that a woman consults with a physician about any uterine abnormalities in order to correct or manage the problem and to preserve fertility.
