Foot Tendons Pain
In this article we are going to talk about the possible causes and treatments of the ligament pain and foot tendons pain. Tendons are the connective tissues that connect the muscles to the bones, and their swelling or inflammation is called tendonitis. They are giving a proper support to the foot along with the muscles, ligaments and bones. Tendons can be torn just like ligaments that connect bones to each other. The usual symptoms of the tendonitis are irritation, redness and swelling followed by a sharp pain in the joint. The foot itself is consisted of 26 bones that are connected by many ligaments, tendons, muscles and joints. Various activities that require using of the foot, such as jumping, running, walking or standing, can cause certain pressure to the foot, which leads to foot tendons pain.
Causes
There is a variety of causes of the foot tendons pain. One of the most common reasons is wearing tight footwear or using high-heeled shoes quite often. It is also important that you move your foot properly to avoid the pain in the foot. You should rest your feet after you have played some sports and avoid causing any kind of trauma to the foot. There are certain conditions such as loose ligaments and weak muscles, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, tendon overuse, flat feet, aging and obesity, which can lead to the foot tendons pain. Not only older people can experience tendonitis, but younger people as well. In the Achilles tendon, which is the strongest and thickest tendon in the body, the foot tendonitis usually occurs. The Achilles tendon joints the muscles of the lower leg to the heel and it enables people to jump, run, walk or stand on their toes. Another cause of the pain in the heel is called plantar fascia, which is made of three bands (lateral, central and medial band) and it usually occurs right after you get up in the morning.
Treatment
There are many possible treatments for foot tendons pain and the most important one is the rest of the foot. In case there is an inflammation, you should avoid any kind of weight on your foot. Applying some ice pack for a couple of minutes can also help you reduce the pain in the foot. In case, you have some serious pain in the foot, the prescribed medications like ibuprofen can reduce the pain, or you may be given an injection to cure the condition properly. There are also various stretching exercises that are very helpful. Sometimes a person who suffers from tendonitis may be required to use night splint or walking cast to control the situation. In case of injured Achilles tendon, you may be required to use braces, but sometimes even a surgery needs to be performed to release the affected ligament. There are also other helpful treatments such as massages with various oils, physical therapy and cushioning or extra padding under the heel.
