I am sure you know what OMG ("oh my god") or LOL ("laughing out loud") means ... What about WTF? Oh, you know that one, I am sure. Finally MTV is doing something good. Don't get me wrong, but 99% of the time MTV (just like most of other television channels) is just a brainwashing and setting wrong examples. I sound like your mother, right? But this time, this time it is different. MTV is spreading the word for young people: "Get Yourself Tested" for STDs. MTV is pushing an acronym GYT (Get yourself tested obviously for STD), and the inventors are hoping that its simplicity and convenience will have an viral impact on MTV's audience: teenagers and young adults.

What is the reason for setting up a campaign like this? Well, the main reason is the fact that STDs are spreading like well like STD. When you look at the numbers, they are shocking. HIV is not the only disease that might be breathing down your neck, you know. There is Chlamydia, HPV, genital warts, gonorrhea, and the list goes on. According to CDC as many as one in two sexually active young people will contract an STD by age 25. And the most shocking part is - most of them won't know about it. The CDC points out that this age group represents half of the estimated 19 million STDs occurring in the United States each year. Yep, half!

Supposedly, the main reason for such spread is the lack of education. For crying out loud, this goes to all teachers, parents, sisters, brothers and friends: sex abstinence is not a proper method. A condom is. Teach your children to USE CONDOMS! This is your obligation! And teach them to Get Tested for STD! GYT! MTV set a great campaign. MTV is taking matters into its own hands with the "GYT" campaign. After all, they are the ones to influence the target group most, perhaps they they are at least partly responsible for so high rates. Well dear just look at their videos. Sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. The GYT acronym is the least MTV can do, don't you think? Anyway, a good thing, this GYT campaign. I just hope it works.
