Superfood list may consist of many groceries highly valuablefor your health. However, some of them are more appreciated because of theeffects they have on your body. Such superfoods are nuts, seeds, spouts, yogurtand kefir, different “green foods”, hot peppers, various onions, beans, lentilsand acai fruits.

Super-Vegetables

The Allium family of vegetables has been highly appreciated by the healthy food fanatics. Shallots, onions, leeks, garlic, scallions andchives all belong to this group. These vegetables are rich in flavonoids,especially potent stimulator for production of powerful antioxidant - glutathione.Because of that, Allium family is one of the top anti-cancer foods.

All peppers, and especially hot peppers, containcapsaicinoids, flavonoids and carotenes, as well as the high amount of vitaminC. Whether you decide to use sweet sorts of peppers (green, yellow, red ororange) or chili, habanero or any other kind of hot peppers, you will provideyour body sufficient amounts of their powerful antioxidants. The amount ofvitamin C found in the peppers is about two times more than in regular citrusfruits, which makes them the most valuable natural source of vitamin C.

Beans and lentils also provide plenty of good things foryour health and should be consumed as much as one can. Choose your favoriteamong: garbanzo, kidney, pinto, black or navy beans or decide to use soy,lentils or dry peas. These plants contain high amounts of proteins, similar tosome animal protein sources, such as fish, meat, poultry or eggs. Other usefulsubstances in lentils and beans are phytochemicals, proven to preserve andprotect your health.

Sprouts are not actually vegetables, but they are made fromvegetable seeds. These tiny pieces of future vegetables are great sources ofvitamin C and proteins. Depending on a type of the seed they are grown from,their texture and taste may vary. You can use sprouts in sandwiches, as thesalad or to make some Asian and Asian-inspired dishes.

Green Food

So-called green food can be anything from cereals and wheatgrasses to algae. They are said to be concentrated sources of phytonutrients (especiallychlorophyll) and have beneficial effects to cholesterol, blood pressure andimmune system, but also for the prevention of cancers.

Seeds and Nuts

Nuts and seeds are the new snacks. Use them to be healthier,to reduce the signs of aging, but also to control your weight. They arescientifically proven to decrease the risk of many health problems, likediabetes and heart diseases. Use them moderately, and enjoy them only raw andunsalted, because fried or salted types are not so healthy.

Super Fruit

Acai berries are very popular fruits from one Amazon palmtree. They taste similar to chocolate and several different berries and when blended together contain plenty of antioxidants, essential fatty acids and aminoacids. Unsweetened pulp is the best acai product you could get, but there arealso some acai juices found in health food stores.

Kefir and Yogurt

These fermented milk products have been used for centuries.People using them appear to be more resilient to many medical problems thanthose who don’t use either yogurt or kefir. There is even the special namefor the type of food that promotes good health – “functional” food.
