Cervical Spondylosis
Cervical spondylosis is also known as arthritis of the neck. Joints in the neck wear off over the years and may cause neck pain in people over 60. It is a type of arthritis, but usually it doesn’t disable a patient like other types.
Treatment
The treatment is used to ease the condition and make it more tolerable, but it doesn’t cure the illness. It includes physical therapy, and the use of medications, such as NSAIDs (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), muscle relaxant drugs and steroid injections.
People with sedentary jobs need to prevent the damage to the spinal discs and possible spondylosis. The best way is to exercise regularly, and specialists recommend walking, cycling and swimming. Other movements might be helpful too. Move and fold your fingers, wrists and forearms. Exercise the neck and the shoulders, moving them up and down, left and right. If your occupation involve sedentary activities, use hard seated chairs, try to get up every hour or so and walk or stretch during that brake.
Spondylosis patients find that yoga and massage of the necks and shoulders taken regularly bring some relief of the symptoms. Infra red rays or hot fomentation are said to be helpful.
Older people suffering from this condition should sleep on firm mattress, if possible avoiding using the pillow. They must take care of themselves and carefully lift any object. These patients should eat more raw (or slightly cooked) vegetables, such as cucumber, tomato, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, etc. and lot of fruits. The diet should include milk, whole grain bread and sprouts.
Spicy, fatty or fried food, sweets, tea, coffee, and smoking should be avoided.
Homeopathic Remedies
Some food is good for spondylosis patients, and garlic is one of them. Use capsulated garlic, 2 of them, 2 to 3 cloves of garlic in the morning or use garlic oil. Oil is usually rubbed into the neck and the patients report easing of their spondylosis symptoms. Oil is made of 10 garlic cloves fried in 60g of oil. Cool the fried garlic, apply on the affected area and leave for 3 hours. After that, take a warm bath. It is believed that this treatment helps, especially if you stick with it for 15 days.
Lemon juice mixed with some salt should be used two to three times a day in spondylosis patients as a homeopathic remedy.
Chebulic myrobalan is another remedy for this condition. A piece of the fruit taken after the meals should ease the condition.
