Appearance of veins

Veins can appear anywhere on the body, though they are most visible on legs and the face. In the beginning, they don’t cause much discomfort so people tend to ignore them, but after a while, they become increasingly conspicuous and destroy the healthy looks of the skin. The appearance of such veins is sometimes hereditary, but in most cases it is due to the poor vein health. Aging is responsible for weakening valves in the blood vessels, which are further responsible for the even blood flow in all parts of the body. Deoxygenated blood travels to the lungs for oxygenation, and oxygenated blood circulates through the whole body. Since legs are under the strongest influence of gravity, the valves in the leg veins work harder to transport the blood to the lungs, and as a result, they tend to get weaker and the backflow of blood piles up in the form of bulgy veins. The process usually starts around the age of 40 or 50 and affects more women than men.

Prevention of veins appearance

The health of veins can be promoted in several ways. Regular daily 30-minute exercise is recommended for proper circulation. Another way to stimulate blood flow from the legs is to rest the legs up against the wall, and 10-15 minutes a day are enough to do the trick. People with bulging veins are advised to raise their legs when they sleep by using a pillow as support, and it is also important not to go over the optimal weight. Therapeutic stockings can ease the discomfort of swollen veins, as well as the proper diet and vein supplements. Researches confirm the benefits of some sorts of herbs and nutrients in the treatment of vein related problems, and one of these is certainly vitamin C, known for its role in maintaining healthy blood pressure and promoting blood circulation. Another precious ingredient of vein supplements is Horse Chestnut, which is valued for its support of circulation. Gotu Kola is a nutrient that stimulates the production of skin proteins collagen and elastin, which work by forming the powerful matrix inside and outside the blood vessels. Butcher’s Broom is the another herb beneficial to vein health, and it helps in circulation and in keeping the walls of blood vessels healthy. Sometimes swollen and bulgy veins may require surgical treatment. Although there are no permanent solutions, proper dose of nutrients and herbs can help have strong veins for longer.
