Hand rash and the main characteristics

The fact is that there are various types of hand rash, and numerous ways in which a person can get it, but the majority of cases are referred to as eczema. The most common cause is from skin contact with irritating substances in the environment. This irritation is usually manifested through itching, dryness of the hands, redness, and swelling. Since it all begins with redness and dryness of the hands, such skin becomes more easily irritated even by things that are usually harmless, such as soap, or even baby products that are known to be mild. Besides the mentioned symptoms, the problem with hand rash is that it causes visible changes on the hands, which further causes additional distress and embarrassment to the person with this problem.

Available methods of treatment for hand rash

When it comes to a hand rash caused by irritants, the first thing that needs to be done is to identify the problematic substance and to remove it, because the symptoms will not be able to disappear and the skin will not be able to heal until this happens. After the cause has been identified, it will be much easier to suggest the treatment, because there are topical and oral medications that can help. In mild cases, creams are usually effective, while a bit more serious cases (particularly those in which an infection develops), might require the use of oral antibiotics. The most serious cases have to be treated with a combination of methods, and it is not uncommon that steroids will be needed.

The person with this problem should avoid too much contact with water and soap and only wash when necessary. Lukewarm water should be used, as well as mild soaps or soap substitutes.
