Blackheads are among the most common medical conditions, and they affect a large number of people everywhere around the world. The skin produces certain types of oil so that it can moisturize itself, but when the production becomes excessive, the oil cannot flow to the surface of the skin. The pores which usually deliver the oil get clogged by the built up oil and dead skin cells. When the oil gets exposed to the oxygen in the atmosphere which surrounds us, it gradually turns black. These accumulated piles of debris are what we refer to as blackheads.
Causes of Blackheads
Blackheads are commonly triggered by two different types of causes. Usage of improper skin care products and hormonal imbalances are the most common causes of blackheads. Improper levels of androgen are the most common cause of blackheads. For those who do not know, androgen is what is commonly referred to as the male hormone. Blackheads are often impossible to avoid, but fortunately enough, there are certain simple and easy ways of getting rid of blackheads. Blackheads can be removed using various common materials which can be found in most homes.
Home Remedies
One of the best remedies is a peeled cucumber blended until it has a pasty consistency. It should be applied topically and left on the face for 20 minutes, before being washed off with cold water. A clean cotton cloth can be dipped in almond oil or olive oil. A little amount of toothpaste then needs to be applied on the dipped portion of the cloth. The dipped portion of the cloth should be used for a gentle massage of the affected areas of the skin. Salicylic acid is another potent topical remedy which is very efficient in exfoliating the skin and opening the pores. This makes the removal of blackheads much easier. One can also take half a teaspoon of salt, a teaspoon of honey, a few drops of lemon juice, mix it all together and rub it on the affected areas of the skin. A cotton cloth can be damped with warm water and applied topically to the face for no longer than 15 minutes.
Skin Care Products
One can also prepare excellent skin lotion by mixing almond oil, glycerin and lemon juice. Harsh abrasives should not be used for the scrubbing of the face because they are known for damaging the skin. Clay masks are excellent for getting rid of blackheads. Oil based skin care products need to be avoided.
