The endometrium is the tissue that lines the inner portion of the uterine cavity and when the tissue spreads to other parts of the body, the results are a disease called endometriosis. Endometriosis fertility rates show that approximately 5-10% of women have the condition and another 30-40% of women that have the disease will be infertile. The only way to make a definite diagnosis of the condition is by a laparoscopic procedure in which a physician will view the organs of the pelvic cavity to check for the presence of endometrial tissue. A woman may be experiencing chronic pelvic pain which could be an indication of endometriosis, but other women will have no symptoms at all.

When a woman is trying to conceive and runs into difficulty, endometriosis can be the underlying reason why it does not happen naturally. Thankfully, natural conception is still possible for women that have mild to moderate endometriosis. For those women that have a severe form of the disease, assisted reproduction technology can still offer a glimmer of hope. When a woman is seeking treatment for infertility related to endometriosis, the plan of action needs to be individualized. There are no fast and easy answers for a woman trying to conceive and suffering from endometriosis, each woman is different and so the treatment should be as well. The methods used to treat the disease will depend on several factors such as location of the tissue, age of the female, length of infertility and the symptoms which are presenting.

Endometriosis fertility rates are largely dependent upon varying factors and each woman is unique. However, with the right treatment it is possible for many to still become pregnant. What works for one woman may or may not work for another, which is why consulting with a fertility specialist is extremely important for those trying to become pregnant. The treatment and diagnosis of endometriosis is not always clear cut for a woman. For those couples that are trying to have a baby and the woman is experiencing endometriosis, proper treatment and management of the disease can end up preserving fertility. Medical treatment can alleviate the symptoms of endometriosis and give many women reason to hope for someday being able to conceive and become a mother.
