There are some risks involving a breast reconstruction process, which we will discuss in this text. In the medicine of today there are very few complications that may arise from breast reconstruction but every woman needs to know about them. The first complication possible is problem with anesthesia. This problem is a risk which every surgery bears and if this happens a person will experience headache, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, itchiness and dizziness. These are the most common symptoms of this problem, but problems with urinating and infection of the chest are also possible. We have to state that this risk may be greater for those who smoke and have problems with nervous system and heart. Another possible problem is bleeding. For those who use blood thinner medications their use will be stopped two weeks before the operation. Infections may occur as well, and the most common treatment for this problem includes antibiotics, while in more serious cases, implant will have to be removed. The signs of an infection include strong fever and redness on the breast and fluid or pus exiting the wound, and if some of this happens, you will have to go to the hospital.

After the surgery, some problems with implants are possible. Capsular contracture is the most common problem, and it happens when the tightening of the scar or capsule is created. Problems like this as well as the problem of overfilling saline breast implant or damage caused by surgical instrument can produce deflation or rupture of the breast implant. If the silicone breast implant ruptures the problem is evident immediately, like in a case of saline breast implant. Because of this every year a MRI should be performed in order to check if this problem has occurred. The problems following the surgery also include very diverse pain and very slow healing. All of these problems can be avoided if the doctor makes plans before the surgery.

The last consequence we will mention is the flap problem. After the flap breast reconstruction, there is a possibility of clotting and death of tissue. When TRAM flap breast reconstruction is performed fat, skin and muscle tissue are removed, while in DEEP flap surgery skin and fat are removed. There is a possibility of longer abdomen discomfort and abdominal strength reduction. Gluteal breast cancer reconstruction uses a buttock tissue as implants, and the complication possible after this surgery includes insufficient blood supply of the moved tissue. Latissimus dorsi flap breast reconstruction uses implants and tissue from the back. The risk involves the common ones and back, arm and shoulder strength decrease. One of the treatments that can be dangerous for those who had breast reconstruction surgery is mammography. Always say to your doctor about the implants if you are having mammography. Try to use the most comforting surgery and the most competent surgeon.
