Castor oil is a vegetable oil obtained from the castor bean, which is in fact the seed of Ricinus communis plant. It has many purposes and it is often used to induce labor, prevent hair loss, for arthritis, even for tumors. This oil is very beneficial for the skin, it helps improve its appearance and cure some of the common skin ailments.

Castor oil for the skin

Castor oil can be used as a remedy for cuts, bruises, abrasions, sunburns, and other injuries to the skin. It fosters the yield of collagen, which is important for the skin as it moisturizes and nourishes it. It reduces the wrinkles and makes the skin smoother, fresher and younger-looking. This oil can also reduce dark circles around the eyes.

Castor oil contains ricinoleic acid, which has anti-inflammatory properties. This is why, this oil is considered to be an effective remedy against acne. It works on other blemishes as well.

Acne treatment with castor oil

Using castor oil for acne vulgaris treatment can have excellent results. Acne is a very common ailment and there are many products, natural or pharmaceutical, that aim to solve it. Persons who are prone to acne should try castor oil, being careful to use it properly and as indicated. All it takes is a cloth, some water and the oil.

The best time to do the castor oil treatment is before bed time. The first step is to steam the face in order to open the pores. Steaming can be done by boiling some water, transferring it into a large bowl and leaning towards it with the face exposed to the vapors.

The next step is to take a clean washcloth, dip it in the hot water and rub it gently all over the face to remove any possible build-up. After this, one or two teaspoons of castor oil are added to the cloth, which is again used for rubbing in circular motions.

After this, the face should be thoroughly rinsed with lukewarm water until all the traces of oil are gone. The face should then be splashed with cold water, which closes the pores.

After the face is wiped dry, a few drops of castor oil should be applied to the face with fingertips and left overnight. Finally, the small amount of oil that was left overnight should be washed away in the morning using a good facial wash and possibly a face scrub.

This procedure should be repeated two or three times a week.

Persons who have sensitive skin should consult a doctor before using castor oil on the face. The use of castor oil should be discontinued if burning, itching, redness, swelling or rash appears or if the acne get worse.
