A fair number of people broke their toe at least once during their life. When a person breaks a toe it gets black and blue and swells up quite a bit. Depending on the severity of the break a pinky may take from three up to eight weeks to heal. The pain will lessen with the passing weeks. A person should know that there are certain things that may speed up the process of recovery. However, it is best that a person goes to the hospital first.

A person should apply ice bags to the wound for 20 minutes a couple of times per day. Rest is also important. Any strenuous activity should be avoided at any cost. It is best that the foot is kept elevated. A person may use crutches in order to avoid putting pressure on the foot.
