Introduction
When are women most fertile?
Women are most fertile during the period of ovulation. This period depends on the menstrual cycle of a woman and it is presented at the half of the period. For example, if a woman has 28-day menstrual cycle, the ovulation will most probably occur on the 14th day. Ovulation happens 14 days before the date of the menstrual period. Theoretically, women are fertile only 12-24 hours each month, because the egg stays in the body for that long. Practically, the sperms may survive for five or even six says so that the women’s fertile period extends from 12th to 16th day of the menstrual cycle.
Calculating a woman’s fertile period
It is relatively easy to calculate fertile period dates for women who have regular menstrual cycles. However, normal menstrual cycle may vary from 22 to 35-day menstrual cycle. This may make it more difficult for a precise calculation, but there are some other ways to find out when are women most fertile.
During the time of ovulation, a women’s body temperature increases by 0.4 to 0.1 degrees. Women may track their basal temperature every morning in order to identify changes that may point out to the day of ovulation.
There are also some other, easy to spot, physical symptoms that occur as signs of ovulation. Most of the women feel lower abdominal pain while, they are ovulating. However, this is not a foolproof method because it requires a highly subjective reasoning. Other symptoms may include mood swings, breast enlargement and tenderness, spotting etc.
During the time of ovulation, cervical mucus also appears changed. Instead of cloudy and thick mucus, it appears clear and stretchy.
Ovulation Prediction Kits
There are plenty of ovulation prediction kits available on the market. They will usually help to those who have trouble in calculating the date of ovulation. The kits are very effective and they use a method of measuring the levels of hormones in the urine. The main disadvantage is their relatively high cost and a necessity to buy a new one each month.
