Kidney cancer

The kidneysare very important bean-shaped organs placed behind the abdominal organs and kidney cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the kidneys. The three types of kidney cancer that are the most frequent are renal cellcarcinoma, transitional cell carcinoma and Wilms’ tumor. Wilms’ tumor is a typeof kidney cancer that usually occurs in children, while transitional cellcarcinoma also may affect ureters. The main cause for the renal cell carcinoma is not discovered yet. The canceroccurs when the kidney cells begin togrow and expand very quickly because of the mutations in their DNA. These abnormal cells are thus accumulated and form atumor that can spread to other organs in the body.

Symptoms of kidney cancer

In most cases, kidney cancer is detected when a person undergoes certainprocedures for other disease. Thus, itcan be discovered early and can be cured. Computerized tomography is an imaging technique by which the kidney cancermay be easily discovered, though in its early stages, this kind of cancer does not show any symptoms. However,later when it reaches metastasis several symptoms usually occur. The most usual symptom of the kidney cancer is blood in the urine, which is also medically called hematuria. In some cases, the blood cannot bevisible and the person cannot see it by the bare eye and in such cases, a sampleurine test is the best. However, it is not a rule that those who have blood inthe urine must have kidney cancer, since it may be caused by someinfection, kidney stones or the enlargement of prostate.

Another obvious symptom of the kidney cancer is a lump or swelling thatappears and can be felt in the region of the kidneys. Furthermore, certain persons may experience some vague symptoms, such asfatigue, loss of weight and loss of appetite. High temperature, accompanied withexcessive sweating, as well as the pin in the side, may also be some of thewarning signs of this disease. These symptoms are the symptoms that are usualalso for many other disease, so it does not mean that, if they appear, theperson has the kidney cancer. In some cases, hypertension and anemia may appear as the consequences of thekidney cancer. All these are the reasons why it is very important to consult a doctor once the above mentioned symptomsare noticed.
