General Information

Keppra is the anti-epileptic medication that is administered for treatment of partial start seizures (for grown ups and children over 4 years), tonic-clonic seizures (for grown ups and children over 6 years) and myoclonic seizures (for grown ups and children over 12 years). This drug can also be given in some other cases.

Side Effects and Adverse Reactions of Keppra

Keppra may lead to even worse seizures if you stop taking it. You might have suicidal ideas while taking this medicine. Keppra can cause alterations in mood or behavior, anxiety and depression and you might feel hyperactive, worried, restless and aggressive.

In any case of these symptoms you should talk to your physician and always inform medical workers that you are taking Keppra in case of crisis.

Levetiracetam can have harmful effects on you reactions and thinking. In case of allergic reactions to levetiracetam you shouldn’t use Keppra.

It is not established if Keppra can damage fetus but it can enter breast milk and harm infant. Children can receive Keppra only by doctor’s advice.

You should not drive and handle heavy machinery while taking Keppra.

Fatigue may occur in children caused by levetiracetam.

Respiratory side effects of KeppraThese side effects involve pharyngitis (7%), rhinitis (4%), cough (2%) and sinusitis (2%).

Psychiatric side effects of Keppra

Psychiatric side effects of Keppra involve depression (5.7%), suicidal depression (0.7%), irritability (6%) and changes in mood (5%).

In patients treated with levetiracetam it was noticed apathy, anger, negativism and delusional behavior.

In patients suffering from tonic-clonic seizures it was noticed abnormalities in behavior induced by levetiracetam.

Gastrointestinal side effects of Keppra

Gastrointestinal side effects of Keppra include anorexia (3%), pancreatitis, dhiarrhea and nausea.

Ocular side effects of Keppra

These side effects include diplopia (2%).

Hematologic side effects of Keppra

Hematologic side effects of Keppra include eukopenia, neutropenia, pancytopenia and thrombocytopenia.

Dermatologic side effects of Keppra

Dermatologic side effects involve alopecia and it was reported in most of the cases when patient stops taking.

Hepatic side effects of Keppra

These side effects include hepatitis, hepatic failure and problems with liver functioning.

Musculoskeletal side effects of Keppra

Musculoskeletal side effect of Keppra includes neck pain (8%).
