Introduction

Duac gel is a drying agent with very potent antibiotic properties and it is commonly used for the treatment of acne by killing the bacteria that cause the ailment. Those who have allergic reactions to lincomycin should avoid using Duac Gel. This medication should not be mixed with any products that may contain erythromycin. Duac Gel is not recommended for those who suffer from Crohn disease, severe bowel or stomach problems and inflammations. People who suffer from severe diarrhea caused by an antibiotic treatment should also avoid Duac gel. Certain medical conditions may interact with this type of medication in a harmful way.

Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding must not use Duac gel. People who take any type of prescribed or non-prescribed medicaments, dietary supplements or herbal remedies should also avoid the use of Duac gel. People who have allergic reactions to foods, substances or medicines should take care before opting to use Duac gel, and the same can be said for those who suffer from any type of bowel and stomach ailments. Duac gel should not be used with any other medications that are topically applied to the skin. There are certain types of medications that Duac Gel should not be mixed with. Those include succinylcholine and nondepolarizing muscle relaxants because Duac gel may sometimes increase the risk of certain side effects that these medications trigger in certain cases. Duac gel should not be taken with erythromycin because it sometimes decreases its efficiency.

Side Effects

Of all the side effects that Duac gel sometimes triggers, the dermatologic ones are the most common. They include in peeling, dry skin, erythrema, pruritus, sunburn and different reactions at the area where the gel has been applied. The reactions are usually characterized by stinging and burning. They commonly occur after the topical application of a mixture that contains clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide. Gastrointestinal side effects include severe diarrhea, pseudomembraneous colitis and abdominal cramps.

If colitis occurs it is strongly advised to stop taking the clindamycin therapy because it can be fatal in certain cases. Duac gel can also trigger certain hypersensitivity side effects such as allergic reactions and anaphylaxis and if any of those occur in ones which must seek immediate medical attention. In certain rare cases clindamycin therapy may be the underlying cause of reproducible ear ringing, tinnitus, hearing loss and severe headaches at the side of the head where the ear ringing occurred in the first place.
