Diabetes
This is a type of a metabolic disease, in which the person suffering from it has high blood sugar levels. This happens for two reasons: either because the body isn’t producing enough insulin, or because the cells do not react to the insulin that is being produced. There are three types of diabetes: type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. When it comes to type 1 diabetes, the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin.
Type 2 diabetes means that the cells of the body have become resistant to insulin, which further leads to sugar building up in a person’s bloodstream. Gestational diabetes is associated with pregnant women. This happens when they have a high blood glucose level, and it may lead to the development of type 2 diabetes.
Symptoms of diabetes include: unexplained weight loss, frequent urination, tiredness, infections, extreme hunger, blurred vision, increased thirst, dehydration, and nausea accompanied by vomiting.
Complications
The complications induced by diabetes develop gradually, sometimes over a course of several years. These include: eye damage (while this disease may harm the blood vessels in the retina), nerve and kidney damage, heart disease, skin problems (such as fungal infections), and bone problems.
Preventing Diabetes
There is no certain way of preventing diabetes. However, with some lifestyle changes, the risk of getting it diminishes significantly. A person should eat food low in calories but high in fiber, get more physical activity, and lose excess weight. Moreover, one should not smoke, and not drink too much. Not only will it help one fight off this disease, but it will improve a person’s overall health.
Natural Cure
First of all, if a person has been diagnosed with diabetes, the doctor will prescribe the most adequate course of treatment. The following natural remedies should only be taken after consulting a physician.
Calcium has been proven to lower high blood pressure, which is useful for diabetics that also suffer from hypertension.
Next, chromium is useful because it improves the production of insulin, and helps it perform more efficiently.
Cinnamon, a very common herb, and found almost in every household, has properties that raise the conversion of glucose into energy.
Bitter mellon extract also has positive effects on the blood sugar levels in the body.
A type of clove, jambolan, is used for reducing blood sugar levels and, what is more, it has no side-effects.
For persons that have eye problems that have resulted from diabetes, lutein may be of great help. It protects the cells in the eye, which are important for vision.
