Even though it is more than disappointing, the truth is that baldness cannot really be cured. Available methods of treatment, which surely are numerous, exist only in order to prevent further hair loss, or stop it, if possible. Besides, the point of the majority of available treatments is to promote the growth of the hair, even though in some cases, no treatment is necessary at all for hair to begin to grow again.
Medications as a method of treatment
It would be great if a person who suffers from this problem could simply take a pill and solve the problem in question. Unfortunately, this is not possible, at least not yet, and the medications that are helpful in the treatment of hair loss only help in particular cases and not all. Their effectiveness also depends on a number of other factors, among which are the cause and the severity of the problem. Those that are most frequently employed are minoxidil and finasteride, although in some cases, even corticosteroids injections and pills are effective.
Minoxidil does not require a prescription from the doctor, so it can be bought in the majority of pharmacies. Androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata are conditions which can be treated with this medication, which is available in a liquid form and which needs to be rubbed into the scalp a few times a day. It can also be bought in the form of foam, and it is used in the same way. It results in slower loss of hair or regrowth of new hair, which will probably not be as thick and long as previously. Still, the effects will disappear soon after the person stops using this medication. Finasteride can be used for the treatment of males, but in cases of women it cannot be used, since it is not approved. Unlike the previous medication, this one needs to be prescribed and it exists in the form of a pill. The result in the majority of cases is slower hair loss, although in some, the growth of new hair can be noticed as well. Still, it is usually necessary to wait for several months before the results become noticeable.Other methods of treatment
Besides medications, people can also choose hair transplant or scalp reduction, which are available surgery procedures. In cases of hair transplant, a few treatments are usually needed, and it is possible to combine these two procedures. Wigs and hairpieces are also an option, particularly for those who suffer from temporary hair loss, due to the chemotherapy, for example. Today it is not hard to find those that look like natural, since they are much easily available then before.
