It is very hard for people to deal with the death of a loved one. When people are getting older, the death of the friends or spouse is becoming a common thing. According to the test results, the therapist makes a treatment plan for that particular individual. When a person is in grief, this plan usually consist of giving help to the client to cope with the loss, helping him to deal with the painful feelings and feelings of guilt that are associated with the loss. It also includes helping a client to live in the present rather than in the past. The client should be encouraged to start building new relationships with other people.

As the time passes, with the proper treatment the individuals will eventually realize that they mustn't allow grief to take over their lives. They will understand the fact that they have to continue and live productive lives, be functional and enjoy again. Cognitive behavioral therapy teaches clients how to stop negative thoughts and change them with the positive ones. This requires a lot of work and time, especially, when a person is sad and shows the lack of motivation. However, the effort always pays off and the sufferer will at the end deal with the reality in a positive and efficient manner.
