Hair loss and dry skin
Hair loss normally occurs over an extended period of time, but it can also occur abruptly and rapidly. The latter might be the result of telogen effluvium. Stress is a common cause of this condition. Alopecia areata is another condition that can lead to sudden hair loss. This is an autoimmune disorder. There can also be other types of underlying conditions that might lead to hair loss. Examples of this include anemia, thyroid disease, and lupus. On the other hand, there can be benign causes of hair loss, including the use of shampoos or hair colorants. In rare cases, there may be some causes of hair loss that can even be life threatening. This includes conditions such as diabetes. If these conditions go untreated or undetected, there can be severe complications. Regular medical care is necessary if underlying diseases are present.
Causes for baldness
Hair loss can be problematic when it comes to our self esteem or self confidence. The loss of hair can negatively affect ones self image, but there are several types of treatment for this problem. In some cases, hair loss can be replaced through certain treatment methods, and might even replace itself over time.
As indicated earlier, hereditary baldness is the main cause of hair loss. Other causes include alopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia, cicatricial alopecia, telogen effluvium, trichotillomania, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, ringworm of the scalp, and systemic lupus erythematosus. There are also medications and medical treatments that might also lead to the onset of hair loss. This includes the use of anabolic steroids, birth control pills, blood thinners, chemotherapy, and radiation. Many of the underlying causes can be treated, and complications of hair loss can be properly managed as long as you follow the treatment plan decided upon by either your doctor or another health care professional.
