However, no matter what the reasons are, tobacco addiction can lead to various diseases and health issues.
What diseases can tobacco cause?
People smoke tobacco more frequently than they chew it. Regardless of the way you use it, it can cause some serious illnesses, such as lung conditions, especially cancer, respiratory and cardiovascular issues. Due to carbon monoxide that is in tobacco, we get lower amounts of oxygen. Oxygen is necessary for proper functioning of all our body systems and when there is oxygen insufficiency, our organs don't get enough oxygen. That is the reason of many illnesses such as hypertension, heart attack, blood clotting, rupture of blood vessels, and many other cardiovascular conditions.
Lung cancer is developed due to smoking cigarettes in 80% of the cases, so we can say that tobacco is the greatest enemy of the lungs. It also enhances the chances for cancer development in other parts of our body. When someone chews tobacco, he or she has a greater chance to get ulcer in their mouth, dental caries, bad odor form the mouth and other oral ailments.
Smoking is the main cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchitis and other conditions that are decreasing respiratory functions. Smoking can also cause decreased levels of vitamin A in our body, which can further cause premature aging.
Smoking and pregnancy
Smoking during pregnancy can have negative effects on the mother and the baby. First, it can lead to the spontaneous abortion, then to premature birth and low birth weight. That is why pregnant women should stay as far away from the cigarette smoke as possible. There is something that we call passive smoking and that means inhaling cigarette smoke without actually smoking. This will happen to those who spend time in the room where people smoke. It can also be a reason for different ailments, especially when it comes to children. If you are addicted to tobacco, you should quit that bad habit and prevent all these disease from occurring.
