Cancer types in women

During the past decades, cancer has become the leading cause of death worldwide. Women are affected by cancer as much as men are and the most common cancer types that appear include breast cancer, uterus and cervix cancer. In the past, diagnosing of cancer was equal to death penalty, but nowadays, with the early diagnosis and a proper treatment, cancer can be treated with success. Every year, breast cancer takes a death toll of 46,000 women. So, let us see in the following lines what are the most frequent cancer types that appear in women.

Different Kinds of Cancer in Women

  • Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer that appears in women. The time of its appearing is somewhere between 40 and 45 years of age. In modern world that we live in, doctors and media try to educate and inform as many women as they can about the breast cancer. The symptoms that are typical in such cases may be variable from person to person, but there are some possible signs that can’t be neglected. If a woman feels and sees that her breasts are swollen, nipples are inverted, red or itching, then she has to visit a doctor. But, unfortunately, in many cases, breast cancer strikes without any warning, which is why it is important for women to do regular check ups, so that they could discover it at an early stage.
  • Cervical cancer also doesn’t appear with some recognizable symptoms and signs and it is one of the deadliest among women. Women may suggest that something is wrong when the cancer starts to affect the tissue and it is manifested as vaginal bleeding that appears between periods, after the menopause, after sexual intercourse. Along with these symptoms, foul smelling vaginal discharge, pelvic pain, and pain while urinating can appear. The surest way to discover this type of cancer is to do regular check ups, pelvic exams, PAP tests.
  • Uterine cancer or endometrial cancer is a cancer type that affects the inner lining of the uterus. It develops somewhere around the beginning of menopause. Women who are older than 50 years are at higher risk of uterine cancer appearance, while women suffering from endometrial hyperplasia, high blood pressure and obesity belong to the group that has more predispositions to this cancer development. But, it also has a good side, as it is treatable with a surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.

There are some other cancer types that appear in women, and gestational trophoblastic tumor (GTT), ovarian cancer, vaginal and vulvar cancer are the most frequent ones. So, as you can see, it is important for a woman to visit regularly her gynecologist, even if she is in menopause, because these cancers can appear in menopause and earlier.
