Lasik eye surgery is no longer a taboo, in fact it’s rather common as people now recognize how simple the procedure actually is and the size of the benefits of having the treatment. There are not too many people that can truly say they like wearing glasses or contact lenses. Lasik eye surgery can improve your life by helping you with sporting needs, quality of your work, and your efficiency around the home. However, some people's life style choices simply do not fit with having Lasik treatment.

The Practical Expectations

The Lasik surgery is a delicate and precise surgery thus you really do need to research the providers of the treatment as there are some people, as with any treatment, who will offer you a process without fully understanding your needs. Your eye doctor and you need to sit down and discuss thoroughly what you want, your general health and your life style to determine if Lasik is right for you and if you are a candidate for the treatment. After your talk you should have an advanced diagnostic test. Do not be mislead to believe you can get one hundred percent perfect eye sight through Lasik surgery, but your vision will be improved dramatically though. The results will vary among all candidates and the surgeon cannot be precise about the result prior to the surgery.

The Basic Criteria for a Good Lasik Surgery Candidate

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration has put together criteria to meet prior to being accepted for the treatment. The criteria consist of a candidate being over the age of eighteen years because any younger than this age and the vision may still be changing its patterns. Pregnant or nursing women cannot have the procedure. There are some medications that should not be consumed for example Accutane or oral Prednisone. Your health should be reasonably well and your eye vision stable. If you have rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, diabetes, glaucoma, herpes infections of the eye, or cataracts then you may not be a suitable candidate for the surgery.

Common Reasons Why Lasik is Not Right for You

If you believe that it will provide you with perfect vision then you will be deemed unrealistic thus not suitable. If your pupils are too big, or you have thin corneas you will also be rejected. If you have any major health issues you may not be suitable as well as having an unstable prescription.
