People tend to use the medications as soon as the need for them arises, not knowing that there might be some alternatives that might be a lot healthier and safer. Let’s take Aspirin for example. Many think that it is a mild medication that helps with some symptoms such as moderate pain, headaches, fever, etc. And it does, but nevertheless, it is still a medication and as such can cause some side effects. Also, there are people who might be allergic to Aspirin.

Tea

Willow bark tea might be an ideal solution for those who want the effect Aspirin created, but do not want to take the medication itself. Willow bark tea, as its name says, is made from the willow tree, from bark, to be more specific. It has effects that are similar to those of the Aspirin, and the main effect is anti-inflammatory. The main difference is that willow bark tea is not as strong as Aspirin, and as such can relieve from pain and fever, but only up to a certain level. Willow bark tea has salicin in its structure, the same thing that the Aspirin has in a form of salicylic acid. Willow bark tea is not good only for pain relieving, but it has also some other beneficial effect, such as anti oxidant function. It is a very important function, since it helps in dealing with certain toxic substances in our organism, called free radicals. It can also be used as anti septic, which is another important function.

Salicin

When buying willow bark tea, one has to be aware that there are other willow products that might have the stronger effects (because of more salicin), but that also might lead to the same problem that may exist when using the Aspirin. The amount of salicin in willow bark tea is excellent for those who do not want take Aspirin. When preparing the tea, time is important. Tea powder should be in water for not less than 8 hours and only after that period it can be used. It is also safe to heat it up a bit then, if the water is too cold. If needed, sweetener can be added, because this tea could be bitter for some.

If there is a serious allergy to the Aspirin, this tea should not be taken. Even though the effects is weaker, it is present and might cause some unwanted complications. Still, those are rare cases. Also, the tea and many herbal products are generally not approved by medical institutions as supplements for medicaments, but many people use them. It is safe to say that there are many options when a mild condition is present, which are found outside the standard medicine. And it is true that many medications today contain some herbal extract as the main substance for fighting against some disorder, illness or condition.
