Have you been told that you can keep on working out during your pregnancy, as long as you listen to your body and stop as soon as you notice any warning signs? You may be puzzled just what these warning signs for exercising during pregnancy are. Let's take a look!
Spotting
Spotting, especially during the early stages of pregnancy, doesn't have to signify a miscarriage. Light vaginal bleeding can often indicate an irritated cervix, and it may happen after sexual intercourse of a strenuous work out. Stop doing what you are doing if you notice spotting, until you consult your doctor.
Dizziness
Dizziness during pregnancy can be caused by a variety of things, but none of them are positive and none of them are compatible with working out. If you are dizzy, you may even faint when you exercise.
Pain
Any kind of abdominal pain, or other unusual painful sensations (in your hips or back for instance) should tell a pregnant woman to stop working out and take it easy. If your pain persists even when you don't exercise, it's certainly worth bringing it up during your next prenatal appointment.
Breathing difficulties
Heavy or difficult breathing before exercising or while you are doing easy exercises is always a sign that you should stop for a while. Pregnancy wheezing is not a good sign.
And...
Going into labor, noticing that your baby has stopped moving or has toned down their kicking, your water breaking, or lots of Braxton Hicks contractions during your work out are all obvious warning signs that alarm you to stop exercising. If you are in any doubt whether the work out you are planning on doing is a good idea, it's always wise to consult your doctor, or even good old Uncle Google about it first. Hint bungee jumping, paint-balling, running a marathon, and climbing the Mount Everest are all bad ideas.
