Chronic venous insufficiency is caused by thrombosis of theveins positioned deeply in the organism. Vein thrombosis and the inflammationin the deep veins are two processes connected in many ways and are usuallydescribed as one condition.
Causes of vein thrombosis
There are several factors that can lead to the creation of veinthrombosis and they include vein injuries and hypercoagubility of blood. Thiscondition happens more often in women after the delivery and also in people who had some surgeries. It affects women more often, especially those who had somesort of hormonal therapy. There are also some conditions that can additionallycontribute to the emerge of vein thrombosis. Those are certain malign and hematologicalconditions. This condition is very dangerous because there is a possibilityof pulmonary embolia occurrence. Therefore, it is important to mobilize patient'sright after they have undergone some surgery. For prevention, heparin is usedto increase the rate of coagulum process. By using heparin, the danger of bleedingout is greatly reduced.
Treatment
The condition in question demands intensive care and hospitalization, atleast in the beginning stage. Heparin is used in the first week of recovery andthen, after a while, oral anti coagulant therapy is used.
Chronic vein insufficiency is a result of the repeated deepvenous thrombosis, which further leads to irreversible changeshappening in the walls of blood vessels. As a result of all that and increasedpressure in the veins, things like skin atrophy, fibrosis and vein stasis mighthappen. Patients complain of the pain that happens usually in the night in the formof cramps. When standing for a long time, a feeling of added weight appears, along with the swelling and the pain. This ends in trophic alteration in theskin of the legs, ulcerations are present too. In extreme cases, surgicalintervention is needed. Elastic socks should be used; leg should be elevated aslong as possible, and good care of the skin is essential here.
