There are a fair number of people all over the world who suffer from cystic fibrosis. A lot of people do not know that this is a genetic disorder and therefore it cannot be prevented. However, the good thing is that people who already suffer from it can take certain steps in order to prevent the disorder from becoming even worse. A person who does not take follow certain steps may end up suffering from various lung infections.
In order not to let the things get worse, a person should keep the immunizations current. This goes especially for children. Children need to get the recommended immunizations apart from the standard pneumococcal shots. Avoiding smoking helps a lot. People should also use airway clearance techniques and make sure to consume a lot of healthy and high-calorie foods. Going on regular checkups is also important. If a newborn has this condition, parents should avoid placing him or her in day care until he or she become at least half a year old.

A person with this disorder will have his or her respiratory and digestive system affected. Various tests like stool analysis and throat culture will help the doctor determine the severity of the problem.
The doctor will also mention to the parents the importance of a proper diet and check whether the child is growing normally.
There are some therapies that the doctor might recommend like respiratory therapy. Certain medicines which are being used in this therapy are bronchodilators, DNase and mucolytis.
Apart from this therapy, a person may try certain types of movements, coughing or exercises which will get rid of the mucus in the lungs. These exercises are known as airway clearance.
