A person with this disorder will have his or her respiratory and digestive system affected. Various tests like stool analysis and throat culture will help the doctor determine the severity of the problem. The doctor will also mention to the parents the importance of a proper diet and check whether the child is growing normally. There are some therapies that the doctor might recommend like respiratory therapy. Certain medicines which are being used in this therapy are bronchodilators, DNase and mucolytis.
Apart from this therapy, a person may try certain types of movements, coughing or exercises which will get rid of the mucus in the lungs. These exercises are known as airway clearance. In severe cases of lung disease, people will be advised to use oxygen at home.
