Nabumetone is an NSAID
Nabumetone is a certain type of medication which fits into the class of drugs referred to as non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs. This class of drugs includes various other medications such as naproxen or ibuprofen and in most cases they are used for the alleviation of moderate instances of inflammatory conditions, fever and painful sensations. All of them work by the same principle. They are very efficient in reducing the levels of prostaglandins. For those who do not know, these substances are responsible for inflammation, fever and pain. Once the enzymes that produce the prostaglandins get blocked the fever, painful sensations and the inflammatory conditions get reduced as well. All patients respond to these drugs differently, so sometimes the doctor may need to try out using different NSAIDs in order to cure the condition. Nabumetone is a medication which was approved by the FDA nearly two decades ago. It can only be purchased with a doctor’s prescription. It comes in the form of tablets usually in the 500 milligram and 750 milligram dosage. It needs to be kept in its container which is sealed and resistant to light. It should be kept away from moisture, so it cannot be kept in the bathroom. This type of medication is commonly prescribed for the alleviation of painful sensations and inflammatory conditions which occur in those who suffer from certain medical conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. In most cases, the patient needs to take only one dose per day. Nabumetone is very convenient in that it can be taken with or without food, depending on the patient’s preferences. At the beginning stages of the treatment, the daily dose usually should not exceed 1000 milligrams per day taken in a single dose. There are some cases which require the daily dose to be increased up to 1500 or sometimes even 2000 milligrams per day in order to gain the desired results. It is strongly advised to always use the lowest dose which proves to be effective for the treatment. Those who are allergic to NSAIDs or any other type of drug and those who suffer from any type of allergy need to consult the doctor before using nabumetone for the treatment of fever, pain or inflammations. Those who suffer or have suffered from recurring heartburn, ulcers, bleeding, esophagus problems, intestinal problems, stomach problems, stroke, liver disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, heart attack, congestive heart failure, nasal polyps, dehydration, clotting problems, bleeding problems or asthma need to be very careful and should not used nabumetone for the treatment of certain medical conditions before consulting the doctor. This is one of those medicaments which commonly induce dizziness and drowsiness, so one should stay away from driving a car or operating any machinery while under the influence from the drug. In some cases, the drug may trigger stomach bleeding. The risk of stomach bleeding is usually further increased by consuming alcohol and tobacco products on a regular daily basis. It is also a peculiar fact that nabumetone may sometimes make the patient much more sensitive to the sun so it is strongly advised to wear protective clothing and sunscreen and to avoid sunlamps, tanning booths and sun exposure. Older patients also need to be very careful when using this medication because they are much more sensitive and they may sometimes experience certain unwanted kidney effects induced by the drug. Pregnant women and women who plan on becoming pregnant should steer clear of this medicament because it may have some harmful effects on the unborn child. Breastfeeding mothers should also avoid using nabumetone for the treatment of fever, pain and inflammations because it may pass into mother’s milk and have some harmful effects on the child. It may also be important to stress out that nabumetone may sometimes be held responsible for an increased risk of stroke or heart attack.
