Introduction

Dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin. There are different types of dermatitis therefore there are numerous causes that are included in the process. Still in each case the condition presents with redness and itchiness of the affected skin.

Causes of Dermatitis

Dermatitis develops as a consequence of different medical conditions. It can also results from certain irritants. Allergies are also responsible for the occurrence of dermatitis. Genetic predisposition and stress are additional factors that can lead to dermatitis.

Contact Dermatitis

Contact dermatitis is a type of dermatitis that develops after the exposure to specific irritants or allergens. The cause may include laundry soaps, detergents or products that are used in cleaning of the house. Even make-up can be a culprit of this type of dermatitis. As for allergens they include different weeds. Contact dermatitis develops after prolonged exposure to irritants. In case of allergic reaction even the small amounts of the allergens can lead to outbreak of the disease.

Neurodermatitis

Neurodermatitis is chronic condition that features with itchy skin and chronic scaling. This condition can be caused by chronic irritation, eczema or psoriasis. Even dry skin can lead to neurodermatitis.

Seborrheic Dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis affects people with oily skin. The scalp is most commonly affected. This skin condition occurs as a result of stress or yeast infection. The people are mainly affected in winter months.

Stasis Dermatitis

This type of dermatitis occurs due to the improper blood flow in blood vessels, predominantly veins. Lower extremities are most commonly affected. Varicose veins are basically the cause of this dermatitis. Still some other conditions that interfere in circulation can be responsible for stasis dermatitis.

Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis is a consequence of allergies. This form of dermatitis is usually present together with some other conditions such as asthma or hey fever. Atopic dermatitis affects children and gets worse in time. If a person is not exposed to allergen the symptoms and signs of atopic dermatitis do not develop.

Perioral Dermatitis

Perioral dermatitis usually develops together with some skin conditions such as rosacea or acne. The predilection place of perioral dermatitis is skin that surrounds mouth and nose. Still perioral dermatitis can be caused by the make-up or different cosmetic products that are used on the face.

Complications of Dermatitis

In all the previously mentioned cases a person may suffer from certain complications. Impetigo and cellulitis are most present complications of dermatitis. The affected skin can also change color and become darker or paler comparing to the healthy skin. In rather rare cases the condition can lead to scaring.
