The latest study that was published in the journal Neurology and conducted by Korean scientists from Seoul National University Hospital suggests that women who go through childbirth more than once are more likely to have a stroke. Not only because of the worries children may cause Korean researchers claim that going through the childbirth more than once appears to increases a woman's risk of having a stroke due to bleeding in the brain.

Korean researchers made a direct comparison between women who had a stroke and those who didn't. The results were shocking. The team of Korean researchers found that the stroke rose for almost 30% with each additional birth over none or one. Researchers claim that pregnancy and delivery itself are known to increase stroke risk and they emphasis that multiple births further strain and stress blood vessels and other body systems. Study investigated almost 500 women who had a stroke and more than 900 women who didn't. All women were approximately 55 years old. Researchers concluded that among the group of women who experienced stroke, only 38 of them had one or none children, more than 140 women in this group gave birth twice, 107 of them gave birth 3 times and more than 170 of them gave birth four or more times.

Researchers evaluated all factors that may contribute to the risk of stroke, such as family history of stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes and lifestyle factors such as alcohol abuse and smoking, as well as oral contraceptive and hormone replacement use. After excluding all these factors, they concluded that each additional birth was associated with almost 30% greater risk for stroke. Additionally women with four or more birth had almost three times bigger chance of having a stroke comparing to women who never had children or gave birth only to one child.
