Women who need fertility treatment and are unable to use their own eggs for some reason (previous chemotherapy, genetic disorders, or being post-menopausal are just a few of them) often place their pregnancy hopes in the hands of an egg donor. With egg donation, a donor provides the intended mother with eggs that will be fertilized with the sperm of the intended father or, in some cases, a sperm donor. In some cases, the future mother will carry the pregnancy herself, while surrogate mothers are also used in other instances. Egg donors can be hard to come by, however. Russia has one of the most liberal policies about egg donors, and eggs are often available without long waiting lists.

Russian laws allow the possibility of anonymous egg donation by women who are between 20 and 35 years of age and are already mothers themselves. Known egg donors are also allowed. If you are considering egg donation with a Russian donor, you will have the possibility of finding out basic information about your donor. You will get a description of what the donor looks like, will know what her ethnicity is, and will receive relevant details about her medical history. With anonymous egg donation in Russia, you will not receive a picture of your donor, however. Many Russian fertility clinics are happy to treat foreign patients. If you would like to know more, you can read our earlier post about the best fertility clinics in Russia.

One advantage of working with a Russian fertility clinic is that you will often be able to receive treatment immediately, without a long waiting list for egg donors. And at SteadyHealth, we are aware of several Russian fertility clinics who are also willing to work with post-menopausal women who would like to get pregnant with the help of egg cell donation.
