A few words about the ear tubes

Ear tubes are very small passages located through the ear drum and their purpose is to allow the optimal amount of the air to flow to the middle ear and to equalize the pressure between the air from the outside and the middle ear. The membranes of these passages are normally mucous, but if there is the increased amount of the liquid in them, the beneficial surrounding for the bacterial and the similar infections is provided. Also, the liquid found in these passages puts a lot of the pressure onto the eardrum membrane and that is why the pain is the most prominent indicator of the infectious process. Of course, this liquid as well interferes with the ability to hear properly.

How to deal with such troubles?

In this and the similar cases of the ear problems, the most effective treatment is the intervention which is known as the ear tube fix, which includes the cleansing the passages from the excessive fluid, the placement of the new passage made out of Teflon and the cut must be made on the eardrum. This intervention is advised mostly in the cases of rather chronic infection of these passages, that is, of the recurrent type of the problem, while, on the other hand, it is not used for dealing with the milder cases of this infection. Also, the surgical procedure is recommended when the Eustachian tube is damaged, additionally, or if there is the case of the cerebrospinal liquid in these passages.

Nevertheless, there are some possible side effects that may accompany this surgical procedure, mostly because the foreign body is placed into the ear. Fortunately, very rare are the cases of being affected by the negative following troubles, and the most common of them is the increased probability of the another infectious process, since with the new tube, the infection is prone to extend over the larger area or because bacteria could come all the way to the middle ear more easily. In that case, the condition is treated with the drugs that kill bacteria.

Also, if the new passage is not placed as long as it should be, it could lead to the inevitable obstruction or a cut of the eardrum. There is, as well, the possibility of the liquid filling up the passage again, which provokes the outcome of the blockage. The another surgery is needed in this case.

However, there is another one possible complication and unwanted case scenario of the passage slipping out into the ear canal, and in that case, it should be removed immediately.
