Causes of high blood pressure

Primary or essential high blood pressure is marked by an unidentified cause.This kind of hypertension is more frequent then secondary hypertension, it usuallyoccurs in adults, and develops gradually over many years. Secondary hypertension occurs suddenly and is induced by one specific cause.It is not so frequent and the blood pressure is higher than it is the case of essential hypertension. Secondary high blood pressure can be caused by somemedical condition, or by some medications, but it can also be caused by kidney irregularities and abnormalities, as well as tumors of the adrenal gland. Furthermore, some congenital heartsdefects and problems can lead to this kind of high blood pressure.

Of medications, contraceptive pills, cold drugs, decongestants, over-the-counter pain relievers and some prescribed drugs maysometimes be the main reasons why secondary hypertension appears. Moreover, illegal drugs such as cocaine and amphetamines, for example, are also some of thereasons for the secondary hypertension occurrence.
