Introduction
Fibromyalgia is chronic condition characterized by tenderness, pain, and stiffness in muscles, tendons and joints. Fibromyalgia produces strong muscle pain, and medical experts constantly searching fro causes of it. Some suspect chemical imbalances or hormonal disturbances that affect signals between nerves. Others are looking into links between stress, trauma or illness and Fibromyalgia. Although there is no common opinion among doctors and specialist about cause of Fibromyalgia, they agree that probably combination of several causes is responsible, and here is a short description of some of them.
Who are More Prone to Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is more common in women that in men. Some studies have shown that women have seven ties less the level of serotonin in their brains, and that fact could explain why is Fibromyalgia syndrome or FMS, more common in them.
Is Fibromyalgia Hereditary
Like with other rheumatic disorders Fibromyalgia is hereditary, and it passes on from one generation to the other on feminine side. Scientist think that persons with Fibromyalgia have some of their genes altered to process more pain, but those genes are yet to be identified.
Risk Factors of Fibromyalgia
Medical researchers are identified several risk factors of Fibromyalgia, and also linked it with some other diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, systemic lupus Erythematosus and some other auto immune diseases. Possible risk factors of Fibromyalgia may be surgery, trauma to spinal cord or brain after the incident, genetic predisposition, menopause, poor physical condition or gender based, usually female.
Does Sleep Disorders or Insomnia Cause Fibromyalgia
Fact is that most commonly people with Fibromyalgia have also some sort of sleep disorder as well. Sleep depravation, especially fro longer periods of time, lowers the levels of serotonin in the brain, thus making it more sensitive to the pain, and in process further stimulating the occurrence of Fibromyalgia.
Stress and Fibromyalgia
Some medicals researchers found out that poor physical condition in combination with stress causes Fibromyalgia, and they also suspect that micro injuries of the muscles can also produce Fibromyalgia. Of course this theory, like many others when Fibromyalgia is involved, is yet to be proven.
Depression and Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is commonly accompanied with mild depression, which is probably caused by prolonged muscle and joint pain felt in cases of it. So some scientist begin to wonder is there a link between depression and Fibromyalgia. Although prolonged periods of pain may cause mental disorders like anxiety and depression, scientist today think that there are no linkage between mental state and Fibromyalgia.
