Calamine lotion and when to use it

Calamine lotion is a preparation that consists of zinc oxide and iron oxide and is part of the group called anti-pruritic medicines. It can be found in a form of water-based lotion and cream, and in the form of oil-based lotion. It can be bought without a doctor’s prescription, but it is recommended to use it exactly as suggested on the label unless the doctor says otherwise. Since it is very effective when it is necessary to relieve pain, itching and some mild irritations, it is used in a number of skin problems and disorders. Most commonly it is used in the treatment of the following conditions:

Acne, since it clears them off and it is effective even in cases of cystic acne and blackheads, which are particularly problematic. It also soothes skin irritations and inflammations, and it is usually applied on face before going to bed. Eczema can also be treated rather successfully with Calamine lotion because it contains zinc, which is particularly beneficial for this condition, also the astringent and antiseptic features of this lotion are very useful in the treatment of eczema. Sunburn can also be treated with Calamine lotion, since it has a cooling effect, soothes the redness and itching and helps in curing the damage of the skin that is caused by excessive exposure to sun.
