Introduction

Penicillin is a certain type of medication which is used for the treatment of bacterial infections in cases when the conventional treatment and home remedies do not provide any results. The actual term refers to a whole class of antibiotics which are commonly prescribed for the treatment of various different types of bacterial infections. One of the most common symptoms of penicillin allergy is rash, It is actually a formation of blisters on the skin which tends to get rather itchy in some cases. Some cases may involve the occurrence of skin rash in patches which cover the entire body. Some cases of penicillin allergy have been characterized by itchiness, without the presence of any skin rash.

Children and babies usually experience hives instead of skin rash. Penicillin allergy may also be affiliated with certain serious symptoms as well. These symptoms may be life threatening or even fatal if urgent medical attention gets ignored. The person suffering from such symptoms needs to be taken to the hospital immediately. The main problem is the interference with proper breathing patterns and difficulty in breathing. Some cases even include lung collapses caused by allergic reactions. Skin may also turn completely blue or red. Some other symptoms may include swelling of the tongue, swelling of the face, swelling of the lips, unconsciousness, vomiting, abnormally high pulse rate and diarrhea.

The symptoms of penicillin allergy can be avoided by conducting a penicillin allergy test before taking the medicine. It is a skin test which involves administration of a penicillin injection into the skin tissue. A pimple signifies that a person is actually allergic to penicillin.
