Risperidone is an atypical anti-psychotic that treats psychotic disorder symptoms. These include bipolar disorder, mania, schizophrenia, irritability in autistic disorder.

Risperdal and allergies

It is important to notify the doctor of any allergies related to Risperdal, other medications, or any allergy source.Studies have not been performed on Risperdal regarding schizophrenia and in children up to age of 13, bipolar disorder and in children up to age of 10 and autistic disorder in children up to age of 5. Using Risperdal in these cases is considered experimental and dangerous. Older patients affected by dementia should not use Risperadone for treating behavioral problems. Old people can be particularly sensitive to risperidone effects and there is increased probability of developing side effects.Even though no study to date indicate problems caused by old age, elderly patients are more likely to suffer Age related symptoms. These include heart, liver and kidney problems, and adjustment of dosage may be required.No adequate studies have been performed to date regarding neither pregnant women nor women at breastfeeding. Therefore using Risperdal in these cases is considered experimental and may endanger the pregnant mother or the infant.

Risperdal consumption and side effects

Using Risperdal in combination with Bepridil, Levomethadyl, Pomozide, Metoclopramide, Mesoridazine, Thioridazine, Terfenadine or Cisaprode is not recommended. The doctor should be notified of use of any of the medications above before consuming Risperdal. Based on this information, the doctor will determine the further course of treatment.Use of this medicine may be influenced by presence of other medical problems. Because of this the doctor must be notified of any medical problems present, so that the further course of treatment can be determined. These include Dehydration, Aspiration pneumonia, difficulty swallowing, blood circulation problems, Hearth or blood vessel problems, diabetes (family history included), dementia, Parkinson’s disease, kidney disease, breast cancer. In case of epilepsy or seizure disorder the risk of having a seizure may be increased by Risperidone. The doctor should be informed of any drug abuse or dependencies history due to abuse potential in this medicine. Liver disease patients have an increasing chance of being affected by side effects caused by Rispedone higher blood levels. Phenylketonuria or PKU is the rare condition which may significantly worsen the state of the patient due to the oral disintegrating tablets that contain aspartame. Risperidone is known to prevent vomiting and in doing so the medical problems that have vomiting as a symptom like brain tumor drug overdose, Reye’s syndrome, bowel blockage and others, may be hidden and cause further complications in the course of therapy.
