These shakes which are being made at home are excellent for those children who are athletic and those who need to gain some weight. Protein shakes can be part of a good breakfast or part of lunch. It can even be served as a snack.
However, there are different opinions whether protein shakes should be served for children. Those who are active in some sport will benefit from it as will those who need to put on weight. On the other hand, there are opinions that an average American diet has enough protein in it and there is no need for protein shakes and powder. Too much protein will be stored as fat.

One of the problems that is on the rise is childhood obesity. Because of this it is important that parents plan a proper diet for their children. The amount of protein that a child needs to intake depends on several factors like age, activities and body weight. If a child is 1 to 3 years old, the right amount of protein is 0.55 g per pound of body weight. Those who are 4 to 6 years of age should intake 0.50 g of protein per one pound of their body weight.
Those parents who feel that their child needs to add more protein into the diet have lots of different protein shakes to choose from.

Protein shake with milk


For instance, protein shake with milk is a one of the most popular choices. In order to prepare it, a person will need 1 cup of ice cubes, 1 ½ cup of milk, half a cup of fresh or frozen strawberries, ¼ cup of yogurt that is not sweet, 1 scoop of whey protein, 1 tablespoon of honey and wheat germs, 1 scoop of ice cream and fresh fruit slices. When a person has all the ingredients, he or she should begin with crushing the ice cubes using a blender. Some water should be added as well and this should be blended for a couple of minutes. After this, milk is added. After a person has mixed it for a couple of minutes, yogurt and strawberries are added to the mix. After that, a person should stir in wheat germs and whey protein. When this is done, one scoop of ice cream should be added in order for the mix to get a smooth texture. In the end, honey can be added if a person would like to make the shake for his or her child slightly sweeter. Fruit slices are put as decoration. The shake should be served in a tall glass with a straw.

Parents whose children need to gain weight should talk to a dietitian in order to know what is the right amount of calories which a shake should contain.
